Several web sites have been carrying the story recently, including:
The Eternal Pet
Katie & Terry Rasmussen's Site
Kathie Price's own site
As a result of these and information circulated through a variety of lists, over 8000 letters and emails have been sent to Clackamas County officials. Now they are even more angry.
On March 22nd, Kathie was hit with papers served for non-compliance with their original order.
Under additionl comments it reads as follows...
"The respondent has spent much of her time since the hearing attempting to gain support to contest the dog kennel and land use issue through a web page on the net. It appears that the respodent went out to the Internet to gain support to help her keep her five dogs. It further appears the respondent is confused as to the issue of her violation which causes more confusion for her web page people that write in response to her pleas. It has been assumed by most that the issue is a licensing issue but in fact it deals with land use. The Board of County Commissioners has sent out a response to the claims of the respondent and questions that have been raised. After review it appears people are confused or misinformed, this being a land use issue. The respondent has caused a great deal of work for the county in this matter of her web page, rather than complying with the order, she continues to be in violation."
There are about 25 pages involved here including copies of Kathie's web page..and The Eternal Pet site. They have fined Kathie an additional fee for "review and response to the internet". That fee is in excess of 1,270.00.
Since Oct 97 the county continues to change the rules of the game. This has gone from
It appears that the confusion is on the part of the DOT and the county commissioners..not Kathie...they can't even make up their minds as to what Kathie is doing wrong.
If anyone had suggested to us that in America...a private citizen would be charged for a county government's costs of answering mail that they alone decided to answer, we would have said it was impossible. Well, that is exactly what this local government has done.
During the weekend of March 28th someone shot and killed 2 of Kathie Prices's cats. One was found out in the pasture with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The other managed to make it to the house and then bleed to death. Saturday night Kathie's son reported hearing 3 gun shots while Kathie was in town buying food. None of the kids could see or find anything at the time and they didn't know for sure till morning what had happened. They are quite sure they know who did it but of course can't prove it since they didn't see it happen. Since both neighbors on each side of the Price family own cats and are cat lovers, that only leaves one neighbor close enough to come into the property at night.
ON TUESDAY MARCH 31,1998, KATHIE WAS SERVED PAPERS PER CLACKAMAS COUNTY
OREGON:
